Office Update-July

I have made significant progress in my office reclamation/redo project. I completely cleared out the area in the hall where the printer and all the old RWRs sat.

Next, I tackled one of two bookcases belonging to my husband that reside in my space.

The book case hid behind the door, and was literally crammed to the ceiling.

Cleaning it off took an entire Saturday. And yes, the shelves are warped. Replacing the bookcase isn’t in the budget right now.

The bookcase now resides in the hall where the old magazines and printer once took up space. It took the good chunk of a Sunday afternoon to move all the books.

As the bookcase is not only taller, but more solid than the printer stand, it seems as if there is less room in hall, but that’s an optical illusion. The bookcase is actually narrower than the printer stand. It just takes some getting used, especially when coming out of our bedroom.

But it’s done!

Beware the Ides of March

Even though a soothsayer warned Julius Caesar to “Beware the Ides of March,” all he meant was March 15.

March, July, October, May: the Ides fall on the fifteenth day.

In every other month of the Roman calendar, the Ides fell on the 13th day of the month.

But Caesar’s assassination isn’t the only bad thing to happen on March 15 (yes, this is a historical fact, not just a line from Shakespeare).

According to the Smithsonian:

In 1360, a French raiding party began a 48-hour spree of rape, pillage and murder in southern England.
In 1889 a cyclone in Samoa wrecked three US warships and three German warships, killing over 200 sailors.
Czar Nicolas II of Russia abdicated his throne in 1917.
Nazi Germany began its occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1939.
Over 60 people were killed in the US and Canada as a deadly blizzard plummeted the Great Plains in 1941.
World record rainfall hit the Indian Ocean island of La Réunion in 1952–73.62 inches in 24 hours.
CBS cancelled The Ed Sullivan Show in 1971.
In 1988, NASA reported the ozone layer was depleting three times faster than predicted.
In 2003, the World Health Organization identified SARS–(Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

Tantalizing Trivia: 74-Minute CDs

Do you know why a CD is 74 minutes long (instead of an even 60 or 75)?

Although this is unverified, the popular belief is because Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony was the CD inventor’s favorite piece of music and he wanted to be able to listen to the longest recording of it without a record change.

And the reason a CD is not longer than 74 minutes is to keep the disc size small enough to fit in a suit pocket.

Today is National Moon Day.

Forty-seven years ago, two the first Earthlings landed on their moon.

We Earthlings have always been fascinated by our moon.

Shakespeare wrote “Rise up, beautiful sun, and kill the envious moon. The moon is already sick and pale with grief because you, Juliet, her maid, are more beautiful than she.”

Buddha said: “Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.”

And there’s always this from George Carlin: “There are nights when the wolves are silent and only the moon howls.”

The moon plays a prominent role in the lives of my werewolves.
