Super Heroes and Why We Need Them

Super hero movies, based on comics, have dominated the motion picture landscape for several years. What is our fascination with these characters? I don’t think it goes back to comic books, where most of the characters originated. I think the movies are more pervasive in than the comics are in this generation.

So why do we flock to movies about super heroes?

Movies (and romance novels) are about escapism. They’re about the fantasy. The “good guy” always wins. Some days it feels as if there aren’t enough good guys out there in our real lives. Super heroes, defeating larger-than-life villains give us hope.

Time to Tell a Joke

Yes, August 16 is National Tell A Joke Day.

I love jokes.

Here is one of my all-time favorites:

The chemical engineer says; “you’re nuts, it’s obviously the fuel’s gone bad. We need to drain the tank and refill.”

The mechanical engineer scoffs; “you’re both wrong. Sounds to me like a valve lifter is froze. We’re gonna need to rip the block apart.”

After another moment of silence the three look back at the computer engineer who says; “maybe if we get out of the car and get back in?”
